How to Remove 'More Like This'

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 25, 2013, 5:41 AM

So last week I wrote a journal on the intrusive eyesore that is the "More Like This" feature. Tons of people complained to HQ that we preferred it as a button, and why.

Our Suggestions:

- Revert it back to a button.  It's still  button for a few Deviants, how hard is it to take it back to that?
- Make it collapsible or Drop Down menu.
- Move it further down the page, past the artists information and "More from this artist".
-  Make it smaller than the the thumbnails of the artists own work.
- Make it customizable so we can choose what we feature beside our own artwork. As of now, it's advertising our old crap AND Scraps. (as well as other people's art we don't want there) I had to store my Scraps so they wouldn't show up in it :stare:
- show LESS thumbnails.
- The distribution of exposure is terribly unfair. many people are forced to advertise others, while some deviants only advertise their own work.

It's a good feature, and good idea, no one is suggesting we scrap it. but as it is now, it's rather distracting and poorly placed. That's it. We aren't poo-pooing all the work that went into making it.

However, in the true spirit of Deviantart, they completely ignore the overwhelmingly negative feedback, as well as some very reasonable concerns and suggestions . You can make your opinion known here : [link]

I see what you did there Deviantart :stare:.

I found this posted in a thread; a way to disable More Like This on our own:

This takes it off of your own view- it doesn't disable your artwork from being put into the mix of the system ( or your scraps and old crap. If you don't want your Scraps showing, you have to put them in Storage).

**** if you use it, it's polite to comment or :+fav: the deviation.

Ha! I just posted on the thread (I'd been gone for some time). It's great to see others that see this 'More like This' idea the same way. Why on earth do I want to advertise others on my gallery? When you go into a shop, they don't shove their competition down your throat!

Not only that, but it's distracting in general. Even if the person going to my gallery loves my work and isn't distracted generally, the wildly flashing gif images some idiots use as their previews make me ill!

I have a question...
Is there any way to set up what kind of pictures will show up in "More like this" when you upload your own pictures?
I uploaded a picture, but some perverted pictures without any connection to my artwork started showing up, so I deleted it -_-"
I'm not going to upload it until I find a solution to somehow set "More like this" so it would not show something I don't want.
Could someone help, please? :<

No, unfortunately there's no way you can control what is displayed in the box :[.

the only thing I'd suggest is to go ahead and upload your pictures, and if perverted pictures show up in the box, keep your art up and contact the help desk (maybe take a screenshot). Tell them your issue.

So glad that I am not the only person bothered by how the More Like This feature is working. I have no problem with it giving suggestions for other things viewers might like. What I have a problem with is WHAT it is recommending. When listing suggestions of other work, the More Like This feature goes by what I have most predominately in my gallery. This right here I think is a poor decision on DA's part as it doesn't work for when an artist switches to a new focus of work. For example, the majority of my work is cutesy, girly drawings inspired by a doll franchise I found cute and became interested in, but what I have been working on recently is in literature and deals with more mature themes and is in a science fiction setting. Imagine what sort of impression viewers of my writing get of me when the More Like This feature shows nothing but suggestions for cute doll-based doodles that have nothing to do with my story in any form! It makes me worry that people will look at that glaringly large feature on the side and view all my work that way and decided that my writing isn't worth reading because it is being connected to unrelated less impressive work of mine. It frustrates me that they don't do this based on the tags in the work.

The MLT section in my drawings show nothing but Shadow Hearts and Shin Megami Tensei fanart. I used to draw a lot of SH/SMT stuff, but this was like almost two years ago! And my style and variety improved so much, but my MLT is still obssessed with SMT and SH XDDDD yeah this sucks

I'm facing an interesting problem with my page. All the "Browse like this" deviants only to one topic not even relevant to nearly all my deviantions. How Do fix this? All my "Browse like this" shows Anti-Brony pics, I only have one Anti-brony deviantion in my gallery.

this is a fairly old journal of mine and Deviantart has done nothing to address the concern about the MLT box ( except make it more obnoxious and larger).

You may have to contact the helpdesk. :[

What I really hate about this stupid feature, is if you draw things with relevance to anything that could be considered someone's fandom, suddenly your page has some extremely weird things in the related. Mostly, things you don't even want to associate yourself with, such as chibi yaoi fanart. It's rather disturbing and quite the eyesore. I wish there was a way to just opt out of that feature
